Teachers to rally at KSD headquarters Friday morning | Politics
As they face a large financial penalty for their strike, Kent teachers will hold a rally Friday morning in front of the Kent School District's headquarters in support of their cause.
On Thursday, a judge declared that if the teachers weren't back to work on Monday morning, she would fine the Kent Education Association $1,500 a day and each teacher $200 a day retroactive to Tuesday, when she ordered classes to begin.
The rally will go from 9-11 a.m. at the building on SE 256th Street. Currently, no meeting has been scheduled by the KEA on the judge's demands or the fines.
According to KSD officials, about 200 teachers returned to work on Tuesday and Wednesday. It isn't known how many returned to work on Thursday.
There were brief negotiations this morning before the court hearing that ended with the fines against the KEA and its members.
